I have a few fuzzy, fleeting memories of First Grade. I can roughly picture my classroom, and I remember we used those little, red and blue counting bears, and I have one random memory of my Mom bringing our family dog Allie to my class one day for my Show-and-Tell.

But I REMEMBER Second Grade.

I remember the hallway and the little stage in the cafeteria and my cubby in the back of the classroom and my favorite denim jumper — and I would know my Second Grade teacher Mrs. Bagley if I bumped into her at Walmart 25 years later.

I remember Second Grade.

But what I definitely don’t remember, is looking this little yet this big — at the same time.

Second Grade

I don’t remember being this cheeky and toothless.

Second Grade

He probably won’t remember those things about Second Grade either. But here’s hoping he remembers how excited he was today — both on the way in and on the way home. Excited about learning cursive and division, and having recess with his buddies, and having PE “on the FIRST DAY!”

Second Grade

Go make your memories, Second Grader. I can’t wait to hear all about it.
