Almost a month ago now, the tribe got back together and confirmed that lightning can indeed strike the same place twice.

If you remember back in the fall, I mentioned a group of women — writers — I’d found over the past few years who have motivated and challenged me in ways I never knew I needed. I’m no exception to the tendency of writers to be introverts so I didn’t see it coming, but this group, this tribe, has come to mean a great deal to me as I work on balancing my life and developing my writing.

After our productive, inspiring, too-good-to-be-true weekend last fall, we worried that we couldn’t pull it off again. Thankfully, we were wrong. And to eliminate any doubt we might have had going in — we decided to make ourselves official. And – in our world – official means t-shirts and hashtags.

Last fall, we were “writer’s retreat” or “girls’ weekend”.  Now, we’re #tcoyos. Take Care of Your Own Stuff. Or Self. Or what you get when you pop that sucker into Google Translate. But it’s in French – because we’re ladies. The idea is that we come together to find inspiration, motivation, or whatever it is we need to get over the hump on a particular project — but that we are powerful as individuals. We have ownership over our own productivity and our weekends together are not about someone playing hostess and organizing activities and workshops. There are other weekends for that. #tcoyos weekend is about walking in the door with a project and a plan — and the attitude to get things done.

There’s something about this YES! attitude that makes you want to just go tackle things. For example, at some point during the weekend we were talking about domain names and the stories behind them and who knows what else, and Stephanie turned to me and said, “Like your site, Sarah, I can never remember it or spell it right. I would really like to be able to just type in and find you.” It struck a chord. Yes! #TCOYOS!

“Well! I’ll be right back!” And I dramatically left the room — headed for my laptop.

Five minutes later, I reappeared in the kitchen and announced I had just purchased BAM.

Within the hour, I’d rerouted my site to — and in my haste I crossed a few wires and found myself in every blogger’s worst nightmare. My site was down! Noooooooooooooo. I take it all back! I broke the internet!

After a few deep breaths and a helpful chat with Steve at BlueHost customer service – I was back online. And yes, Stephanie. You and the rest of the world can now type — and find little ole me. Go ahead, try it. See?!

And while I was at it, I went nuts and changed my Twitter and Instagram handles. Pinterest and Vimeo and I’m not sure what else will follow eventually, but the whole thing is reminiscent of changing my name after our wedding eight years ago. It took me at least two years to find all the places my name was still Sarah Martin — and there are STILL things that have my old name that I just don’t have the energy to fuss with.

There you have it. After 20 years — I’m starting to leave sarahmcow behind. It makes me feel like a grownup.  That’s what happens when you #tcoyos.

There we are. In all our haven’t-showered-since-yesterday, I-don’t-have-to-put-on-real-pants-for-the-picture-do-I? glory.  Someday, one or more of these girls is going to change the world. I know because I’ve felt them working on it.

  1. I LOVE that you have your new domain… and I love that you are #tcoyos. (And also, you’ve already changed the world for some people.)

  2. Your timing for this post is perfect! I was feeling like I needed a dedicated time set aside to work on my website but wondered if I’d really do it. You’ve inspired me!
