I got married in the fall. And there’s nothing you can do to convince me otherwise. Trust me, Jeff’s been trying for almost seven years.
As far as I’m concerned the actual, official first day of fall can land on September 22nd for the next hundred years. I don’t care. I got married on September 16th. In the fall.
Shouldn’t a new school year and the onset of football season (and my just simply wanting to say I got married “in the fall”) override some silly equinoxical nonsense?
I knew you’d see it my way.
So while we’re at it, I’d like to decide when summer starts, too. Cool? Good.
Today! I know it isn’t even Memorial Day yet and for gosh sakes it SNOWED here in the last three weeks, but I am declaring it summer. I feel better already.
A friend recently described the balance of her life in terms of a three-legged-stool. Each leg represents a primary responsibility in life and the overall effectiveness of the stool is dependent upon the balance of the three legs. (Let’s face it, in reality it’s probably a 17-legged-stool, but for simplicity’s sake let’s stick with three for now.) I guess your legs could represent whatever you like, but mine are Family, Work, and Personal Health/Development/Sanity. Lately, my stool is outta whack.
But declaring today the beginning of summer is a step in the right direction.
Part of the beauty of the three-legged stool is that it can technically still stand even if one leg is cut short. It isn’t pretty, but it stands.
But I’m craving a healthy stool and my summer attitude has arrived just in time. A few years ago I started giving myself permission to blog on “summer hours” — which only means I give myself a break from the self-imposed expectation to blog 2-3 times a week. In the summer, that settles around 1-2 times per week. But mostly – one. We spend more time outside and more time enjoying our town — and less time inside staring at various screens.
And blogging is only the beginning. I want to extend this “summer hours” attitude as far as possible. Maybe I’ll even start tackling some of those goals I had for 2013 — particularly #2. Ooh, and #5. That sounds wonderful.
Summer. I’m SO ready.[box]Helpful Tip! Since posting in the summer will be less predictable, it is handy to get my post updates via email. That way you won’t miss any of the fun. Click here to subscribe.[/box]
