4th of July – 2011.
It’s only about 200 degrees outside — let’s go run!
Since it was a holiday weekend, there were probably plenty of people out of town so it was a relatively small crowd out at Lake Atalanta in Rogers. I’m still figuring this whole thing out and I’m learning a lot about running on different terrain, so this was a new challenge. Unpaved HILLS.
No race bibs for this race, just timing chips. And I tried to start a bit closer to the front so I didn’t get tangled up in the crowd — but I don’t think I’ve quite mastered it yet.
I pushed through all three miles – is it possible that the whole course was uphill?? The race was an out-and-back so I knew when the finish line came into view and I took off — hungry for my 30 minutes.
No 30 minutes today. 30:10. But third place in my age group! And a cool, handmade clay medal.
Seriously. It was hot. I was sweating just standing there — much less racing a 5K.
And my own little Firecracker was waiting at home to celebrate with me! Happy 4th of July!
